- Optilight IPL
Do you have dry, itchy, red or burning eyes?
If so, you may be suffering from ‘Dry Eye’. This painful and debilitating condition is surprisingly common, and usually occurs when tears cannot properly lubricate the eyes, because too few tears are being created or they evaporate too quickly.
Apart from the discomfort and inconvenience it causes, if left untreated, this condition can cause lasting damage to the corneal surface.
Some factors affecting dry eye:-
- Reduced tear production
- Eye conditions such as blepharitis
- Some medications
- Hormonal changes
- Usage of computers and screen time
We now hold regular Dry Eye Clinics where we can identify the causes of the condition and offer appropriate treatment plans. A leading cause of dry eye symptoms is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), affecting the glands in our eyelids, that are responsible for forming the lipid layer of tears on our eyes as we blink. Where this is the case, we can now offer OptiLight, a painless procedure that can provide real benefits in just a few short sessions.
Lumenis OptiLIGHT IPL
The first and only light therapy that is FDA approved, backed by numerous clinical studies, OptiLIGHT’s novel Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT®) provides a transformative, safe, and efficacious way to improve signs of dry eye disease due to MGD. OptiLIGHT uses Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT®) to gently stimulate the glands, enhancing tear quality and providing effective relief. OptiLIGHT delivers treatment that is safe and precise.

- A course of treatment typically includes 4 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart.
- Each session usually takes only 10-15 minutes.
- During the treatment, your practitioner will apply a coupling gel on the treatment area and cover your eyes with shields.
- You may experience a warm sensation as light is applied to the skin, the treatment is gentle with minimum discomfort.
- OptiLIGHT is followed by Meibomian Glands expression.

Dry eyes occur when the eyes don’t produce enough tears or the right quality of tears to keep them lubricated. This can be caused by factors such as aging, environmental conditions (like dry air or wind), prolonged screen time, certain medications, or underlying medical conditions. Our optometrists can help identify the cause and recommend appropriate treatments.
Common symptoms of dry eyes include a feeling of grittiness or sand in the eyes, redness, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, and discomfort when wearing contact lenses. If you experience any of these symptoms regularly, it’s important to schedule an eye exam to address the issue.
Treatment for dry eyes depends on the underlying cause. It may involve using artificial tears or eye drops, lifestyle changes such as reducing screen time, wearing protective eyewear, or using humidifiers in dry environments. In some cases, your optometrist may suggest prescription medications or specific therapies like punctal plugs.
While it may not be entirely preventable, there are steps you can take to reduce the risk of developing dry eyes. This includes taking regular breaks when using digital devices, staying hydrated, avoiding smoke and wind, and using lubricating eye drops as recommended by your optometrist.
